The Zsolnay Porcelain Factory has been creating unique porcelain, Eosine and Pyrogranite products for over a century. One of their most recent creative challenges was an order placed by the Sultan of Oman.
“After examining a number of Zsolnay products preserved in museums, the Sultan chose the most excellent, most artistic and most unique pieces that harmonize with the atmosphere of his newly built palace.” Since most of these items originated in the 1800s, there was no documentation available describing the special technologies used for their creation. However, professionals at the Zsolnay factory rose to the challenge, and following careful analysis and several test-runs, they created replicas that inspired the Sultan to place a second order.
Although there were pieces very difficult to reproduce – like a vase that took 3 years from design to final product – the already completed twenty items exhibited stand as living proof that Zsolnay is still able to reproduce any of its historical products in great quality.
The colorful, richly gilded items are on display till July 31, 2007, and Zsolnay expects to deliver the full order to the Sultan of Oman by September 2007.

Open House at the Zsolnay Factory
The Zsolnay ceramics factory is the manufacturer of some of the most beautiful and innovative artistic products of fine china and ceramics.
On
June 23, 2007, between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm, it opens its gates for visitors to take a guided tour of the factory, attend a workshop held by the hand-painters, and then try their artistic skills in producing a Zsolnay piece themselves.
